Carnival 2020 is on the home stretch! Tuesday afternoon is here and just a few awards are left to be handed out. We have the major results for Carnival 2020 thanks to our sister site My Trini Lime.
One of the major prizes not yet announced is Road March, but it seems clear that the collaboration of Kees and Iwer – “Stage Gone Bad” will probably take the Road March for 2020.
The first major prize was awarded to GI and his double entendre hit Anna Anna at the Chutney Soca Monarch. The song is also known as “Anna don’t squeeze my banana”.
The country seemed to be most excited about the Calypso Monarch win by Terri Lyons. Superblue gave his daughter blessings on Thursday night before she took the crown.
Desperadoes managed to prevent Renegades from taking their three peat and also made sure that Desperadoes has the most wins of Panorama Large bands, of all time, with 12 wins.
Tobago successfully hosted their first Medium Bands Finals where NGC Couva Joylanders traveled from Central Trinidad to cop the title in Tobago. Pan Trinbago pulled off having the competition in a different island!
There were a few low moments as a masquerader fell off the Stage at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Monday and a costume caught fire at the Kings and Queens finals at Dimanche Gras.
Overall there were no major incidents reported as at 3:15 pm Tuesday afternoon, in the Carnival events. Unfortunately our roads were not as safe as there were several fatalities on the roads. Our thoughts go out to those persons and families affected by the crashes.
In the end the main theme of Carnival 2020 seemed to be Love as there were so many collaborations in Soca, a proposal at Army Fete by DJ Linx and a wedding, as Machel Montano married Renee Butcher.
Continue to keep safe and spread the love Trinidad and Tobago!
